Educational Philosophy Statement

I feel it is my responsibility to make my classroom a place where all students can be successful.  I want my students to feel the confidence and freedom to challenge themselves as learners.  I believe that elementary school teachers should focus significant classroom time on the acquisition of social and community skills such as mutual respect, cooperation and friendship-building skills.  To this end I incorporate a lot of small group, cooperative projects into the classroom routine.
I believe each child has the potential to bring something unique and special to our class community and to the world.  Teaching is a lifelong learning process of learning new philosophies and new strategies, learning from the parents and community, learning from colleagues, and especially learning from the children.
A quote from Ray Wilber:  “The potential possibilities of any child are the most intriguing and stimulating in all creation.”  How true and how motivating for any educator (or parent)!
